Preserve the Pride Center and the Women and Gender Resource Center at ETSU

Preserve the Pride Center and the Women and Gender Resource Center at ETSU
The Issue
With immense concern, we note that East Tennessee State University (ETSU) has announced the impending closure of the Pride Center and the Women and Gender Resource Center. These essential centers provide invaluable resources and foster a sense of community for many students. They offer safe spaces in which students can engage in open discussions and receive support on gender and LGBTQ+ issues. The decision to close these centers appears to be a direct result of pressure from the Trump administration to cut back on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs. This cuts against the grain of inclusivity and diversity that universities should encourage and nurture. Each year, thousands of students use these centers for enlightenment, education, and empowerment. Removal of these crucial resources risks the wellbeing of these students and negates the university's responsibility to provide inclusive services. Let us protect these centers that are central to the heart of ETSU. Sign the petition to tell ETSU that we will not stand for the closure of these necessary centers.
