On behalf of the Kendale Woods community, I want to thank you for your continued support in getting our courts back! Life has been busy lately, so if you sent me a message and haven't heard back, please know that I've seen it, but my response time is a bit slow.
We have a community meeting with Mason District Supervisor Jimenez on Thursday. While his office has said that this is to discuss community matters and not necessarily pickleball, pickleball is a community matter. I'm posting the chart of who's in charge of what in Fairfax County, hoping we can get some clarification on that. Additionally, if there are no checks and balances for FCPA that is something worth looking at (the chart suggests otherwise).
Also, here's the latest article on Annandale Today regarding the status of our courts. Someone suggested forgetting about the Washington Post and sticking with Annandale Today because they cover local news more thoroughly, I agree.
This quest for answers and accountability has gone on longer than any of us wanted, but it's not going to end until we get some acceptable answers (and hopefully our courts back)! Like most things in life, there have been silver linings in this garbage dump of a situation—one is that a lot of people are now more aware of local officials and their role in our day-to-day life. Local elections matter! Our parks are something that can be taken for granted, but this situation has also put FCPA on people's radar, and many people, not just in Annandale, are wondering if our current setup is the best one for Fairfax. There are some big flaws that this situation has brought to light. It's also brought our community together in a united front for being able to use community spaces in a way that serves the people.
As the kids would say: "Our sigma community thinks this situation is totally sus, but we're turning it into a skippidy toilet moment and standing strong together! Ohio! Yas queen!"
But I think one of our awesome community members says it better every time they see people playing pickleball on OUR neighborhood courts and he shouts out: "Power to the People!" If you look at the flow chart, the people are where the power lies.
Stay tuned!
