Preserve the New London Disc Golf Course from Destruction

The Issue

I am an enthusiastic disc golfer and I hold the iconic New London Disc Golf Course in high esteem. This course is a landmark in the global disc golf community and it holds a special place in the hearts of countless players and tourists who frequent Bedford, Virginia. The proposed plan to demolish the last seven holes of this renowned course and convert into business and parking is a crushing blow to my passion and to our community.

The New London Disc Golf Course is much more than just a sports venue – it is an integral part of our identity, attracting disc golf enthusiasts and spectators from far and wide. This traffic greatly contributes to the tourism sector of Bedford. The impact of the proposed plan is not only detrimental to the sporting world but will also cause a financial decline due to a reduction in visitors.

Apart from its economic significance, the New London course has been a nexus of social interactions. It has fostered camaraderie among locals and visitors, facilitating exciting disc golf tournaments that bring people together. Destroying part of it can, thus, stir a negative social repercussion in our community.

Given these grave implications, it's evident the plan to dismantle part of our proud course is not only an injustice to disc golf players, but it is also going to harm the socio-economic well-being of Bedford. We urge the city to reconsider this action, acknowledging the importance of keeping the New London Disc Golf course in its entirety intact. That doesn’t simply benefit me as a fervid disc golfer, but all members of our community, and future generations that deserve to experience this unique facet of Bedford's identity and heritage.
