Preserve the Legacy of St. Thomas School, Kidderpore And STOPA

Preserve the Legacy of St. Thomas School, Kidderpore And STOPA
The Issue
For generations, St. Thomas' Old Pupils' Association (STOPA) has been the unwavering voice of thousands of former students, safeguarding the values and traditions of our alma mater since before India's independence. St. Thomas is not just a school—it is a 236-year legacy.
Today, that legacy is under direct threat.
The proposed Law College and Sports Academy are set to be named Bishop Canning Law College and Bishop Canning Sports Academy, completely disregarding the proud history and identity of St. Thomas' School. At the same time, hostel admissions have been restricted, reducing a once-thriving boarding facility to a mere handful of students.
Why is the Chairman refusing new hostel admissions? Why is St. Thomas’ name being systematically erased? Is the school being turned into a commercial enterprise at the cost of its students?
Why Should St. Thomas' Name Be Erased?
There is already a St. Thomas Engineering College under our school’s banner. If the engineering college carries the St. Thomas name, why should the law college and sports academy be treated differently?
These new institutions should prioritize students of St. Thomas Boys' and Girls' Schools, yet the majority of seats in the sports academy are being handed to outsiders. Why are non-St. Thomas students being given priority?
This isn’t just about a name—this is a deliberate attempt to erase St. Thomas' identity, paving the way for an eventual name change of the school itself.
We Demand Immediate Action:
✅ Name the institutions St. Thomas Law College & St. Thomas Sports Academy, just like St. Thomas Engineering College.
✅ Reserve the facilities primarily for St. Thomas Boys' & Girls' students, not outsiders.
✅ Recognize and respect STOPA’s legacy and contributions.
This is our school, our history, and our legacy. We refuse to stand by while St. Thomas' name is erased, piece by piece.
