Preserve the Legacy of Mount Diablo High School and its Red Devil Mascot!

The Issue

As a proud alumni of Mount Diablo High School, I am deeply concerned about recent calls to change the name and mascot of our beloved institution. Mount Diablo High School has a rich history that spans over many generations, and its name holds significant meaning to the community it serves.

Growing up in Contra Costa County, I had the privilege of attending Mount Diablo High School alongside my sisters, cousins, aunts, and uncle. Our shared experiences as Red Devils have shaped who we are today.

The proposed change to our school's name disregards the historical context behind "Diablo," which means "devil" in Spanish (will 'they' be changing that too?).  It is essential to recognize that this term does not carry any negative connotations within our community or among those who proudly call themselves Red Devils.  I know I am!  Gives me a sense of strength.

Moreover, altering the name would require changing numerous landmarks associated with Mount Diablo throughout Contra Costa County. This unnecessary endeavor would not only be logistically challenging but also erase decades of tradition and cultural significance tied to these landmarks.

It is crucial for us to remember that mascots like the Red Devil represent strength, resilience, determination – qualities instilled in every student who walks through the halls of Mount Diablo High School. The mascot serves as a symbol unifying past generations with present ones while fostering pride in our shared heritage.

By signing this petition, you are expressing your support for preserving the name of Mount Diablo High School and its Red Devil mascot. Let us stand together as proud alumni, parents, students, and community members to ensure that future generations can continue to embrace their heritage while attending our beloved institution.

Together, we can protect the traditions that have shaped countless lives and maintain the strong sense of identity associated with Mount Diablo High School. Join me in celebrating our shared history by keeping our school's name intact!

Can't we focus on the school/learning basics.  History, English, Reading, Writing, Arithmatics.  I believe THIS is what our schools should be focusing on for our kids!

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
