Preserve the Legacy of Devil's Bowl Speedway Under New Ownership

The Issue

I am a passionate race fan, and like many others in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area, I, as well as many others, have relied on Devil's Bowl Speedway for my racing fix. The number of purpose-built racing venues in DFW is already limited as it is. Without Devil's Bowl, our next closest option would be a 2+ hour drive to Oklahoma. This isn't just about convenience; it's also about preserving a significant piece of racing history as well.

Unfortunately, Devil's Bowl Speedway is far from being an isolated case of this happening. Legendary tracks like Mesa Marin (helped in developing what later became the NASCAR Truck Series), as well as many other tracks across the country have met the same fate, and even more unfortunate, there are more race tracks that run the risk of meeting the same fate. However, we have the opportunity as race fans to put a stop to the demolition of such an iconic track like Devil's Bowl, and to keep operations going, in spite of what the developer is currently planning on doing to the property. This may also set a precedence for other tracks that are currently under the threat of closure.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is not just another race track - it is the birthplace of the World Of Outlaws Sprint Cars, one of the most prestigious dirt track racing series in America, so much so, that it is accurately billed the "Greatest Show On Dirt". It has been an integral part of our community for 50 years now, and its loss would most certainly be deeply felt by all who love motorsports, and even more so by those who are climbing the ranks of motorsports as well as those who follow the tour wherever the tour may lead them.

Under new ownership, this iconic speedway is set to close down and torn down to build a logistics center. 50 years of racing, with a legacy that travels all across the globe almost all year round, yet the place that started it all is soon to be demolished and forgotten about, only to be mentioned in the past and all the memories this track has provided to teams, drivers and fans alike. We must ensure that doesn't happen. We urge the new owners to recognize and respect its historical significance and continue operating it as a racetrack. As race fans, we want nothing less than to show our future generations where World Of Outlaws Sprint Car racing began. In fact, the history of this track is so significant to the current CEO of the World Racing Group (parent company of the World Of Outlaws series), that he went out of his way to specifically add the Devil's Bowl Speedway to the schedule. All of that effort, just for the track to be under threat of demolition less than a decade after the  World Of Outlaws series made a return to their roots in grand fashion.

From what has been said in the media, it seems as though the track will be sitting vacant fot 5 to 6 years before the property starts to get redeveloped, so we still have plenty of time to convince the new owner to allow racing events to continue, at least for the time being. If racing is allowed to continue, I hope the turnout is enough to convince the owner to cancel the redevelopment plans entirely. This past weekend's turnout, which was so full on both days that there weren't enough parking spots or bleachers for those who showed up, was absolutely fantastic & shows the impact this track still has for race fans. Not to mention the racing product was absolutely phenomenal, with the main event on Saturday night having a .015 second gap between the top 2 at the end.

Let us keep this legacy alive for future generations to enjoy and appreciate, as well as making many more memories to be cherished. Sign this petition to show your support for keeping Devil’s Bowl Speedway open under its new ownership!
