As an impassioned fan of the Harry Potter series, I feel personally affected by the recent casting of Papa Essiedu as the black Severus Snape in the HBO Harry Potter series. This decision raises numerous questions concerning the authentic portrayal of the character, and we believe that it undermines the integrity of J.K. Rowling's original creation. No disrespect to any race, but for continuity with the books and previous movies, casting a performer of white complexion for this character is more in line with the originally depicted character. This casting decision appears to represent an attempt to conform to 'woke' ideals, rather than striving to maintain the authenticity of the series beloved by millions. We reject this practice and call on the producers and directors to respect the integrity of the original characters.
