Preserve the Historic Wave Logo at Our Local High School

The Issue

As a proud member of the Mattoon, IL community, I am deeply connected to our local high school's history. The Wave logo has been an emblem of our shared heritage for generations. It symbolizes not just a school, but a community united in education and progress. However, it has come to my attention that there is no "Wave" logo whether it be in a water wave form, or a field of corn.

The Wave logo is more than just an image; it represents years of tradition and collective memory. It is part of what makes us unique and binds us together as a community. Changing it would be akin to erasing part of our identity.

According to research on the importance of symbols in communities (source: American Sociological Review), symbols like our Wave logo play crucial roles in fostering unity and creating a sense of belonging among members.

We understand that change is inevitable, but we believe that preserving important aspects of our history should be prioritized over aesthetic updates or modernization efforts that do not consider the emotional attachment and historical significance attached to them.

Therefore, we call upon the decision-makers at Mattoon High School to reconsider their plans for getting rid of the Wave logo. We urge you to recognize its historical value and its role in defining who we are as a community.

Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving local traditions like ours - traditions that make Mattoon unique! Let's keep the wave rolling!
