Aloha,
This is the information that we have received from reliable sources. The 2nd BYU-Hawaii community meeting was held on July 5, 2023 at the Aloha Center. There were about 100 empty chairs with about a dozen people present including faculty and staff members. The meeting was announced on the BYU-Hawaii internal newsletter on July 3, 2023.
The community meeting was hosted by the BYU-Hawaii's Operations Vice President. No recording and photos were allowed. The best description was that the plans resembled the BYU-Provo's Aspen Grove Conference Hall look.
It appears that the main agenda of the meeting was to have a community dialogue on what stories to share about BYU-Hawaii at its Welcome Center (Replacing the McKay Foyer). However, the time was spent trying to provide answers to questions asked about its new conceptual drawings.
The takeaway was clear that the current BYU-H Administration wants to demolish the entire McKay Complex including the McKay Foyer.
Those who have concerns about these actions should directly contact leaders in SLC.
