Preserve the Crucial "New Generations" Program for Women in Virginia

The Issue

For years, I was stuck in a vicious circle of addiction and mental health issues, unaware that programs designed to help people like me even existed. Then I found New Generations, a lifeline in Fairfax, Virginia for women with co-occurring disorders. It was a beacon in the dark for me, a place where I felt understood, seen and ultimately, saved. I now live a life where I am fully present for myself and my child, thanks in large part to New Generations.

New Generations is one of only four programs in Virginia that allow women in need to bring a child. It offers an inpatient program, providing 24/7 assistance, it becomes a true home manned by committed staff.

Virginia is home to over 3.5 million women. Among them, countless face daily struggles with mental health and substance abuse disorders. The existence of only four such programs in the entire state is woefully inadequate. Cutting down these already scarce resources is a step backwards, and will lead to more women living in silence, battling their demons without knowledge of or access to the help they need.

We owe it to our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends to rally against this. Let's inspire, motivate and above all, act. Do not stand by while these essential services are dismantled. We must save the New Generations Program, and shine a light on it, ensuring that women know that there is help, they do not have to face their struggles alone, and they most certainly do not have to sacrifice the bond with their child to receive treatment. Join me in making a stand. Sign this petition today. Together we can keep these programs operational and the hope alive for those most in need.
