Preserve the 6th Tennis Court at Garner St. Park and Establish True Pickle-ball Courts

The Issue

Please consider our plea before altering The Curtis Holland Tennis Complex at Garner Street Park.  We stand against the conversion of the 6th tennis court in Springfield into a pickle-ball court. This beloved tennis court serves as a crucial recreational space for the local community, fostering a healthy lifestyle and encouraging active outdoor interaction. Tennis remains one of the most popular sports in the country; according to the Physical Activity Council's report, it boasts nearly 18 million players nationwide. Additionally, we propose that the City of Springfield develop pickle-ball facilities. Pickle-ball has seen a surge in popularity, especially amongst the older demographic, with 3.46 million players in the U.S. as per the Sports and Fitness Association. Therefore, the installation of additional genuine pickle-ball courts around the existing lower facilities would cater to this growing demand. We also encourage the city to install lights in all bottom facilities to extend their accessibility into the evening, providing a significant benefit to working community members who can only utilize these amenities after hours. We urge you to protect our community’s sporting assets and cater to all residents' recreational preferences. Show your support for diversified sports spaces in Springfield by signing this petition.
