The Issue

Edit to the original petition ***

I've seen many residents on social media discussing the petition and suggesting alternatives to speed bumps, raising valid concerns about noise and vehicle wear. However, there appears to be a shared understanding within the community: we need comprehensive road studies on streets experiencing increased traffic—particularly in areas affected by recent and future development.

A transparent and thorough traffic assessment should be a top priority for Brentwood. The impact of diverted traffic and the growing number of vehicles in our neighborhoods is being felt by many.

With a newly renovated pool and park, frequent town events that close major roads, the upcoming opening of a new school building, and proposed residential and commercial development at the old borough site, the strain on our roads has never been greater.

It’s time to prioritize meaningful solutions—such as adding more one-way streets, installing clear signage for children at play, enhancing neighborhood crosswalk visibility outside of just the main roads, and placing additional stop signs. What originally started as a call to action for Pary Ave specifically has really highlighted the growing problem all over the community. Let’s work together to make Brentwood’s roads safer for everyone.

Living in a serene neighborhood in Brentwood, PA, has always been a blessing for our family. My cousin and I share a duplex here, surrounded by children and pets who enjoy the freedom and safety our brick road offers. Tragically, our family has experienced profound losses that heightened our awareness of life's fragility and the urgent need for safety. With the recent development of a new apartment building and storefront, as well as the closure of the main road which diverts more traffic onto our street, preserving our road's integrity and ensuring safety has never been more pressing.

The brick road is not just a pathway; it is a testament to our community's history and character. Asphalt paving might seem practical, but it risks eroding the unique charm and historical significance that our brick streets bring to Brentwood. Maintaining our brick road will uphold the heritage that defines us, offering future generations a glimpse into the past.

Moreover, increased traffic poses significant risks to our families, particularly children and pets. A simple yet effective measure is installing a speed bump to calm this traffic. This addition will act as a necessary step to protect our loved ones, offering peace of mind to residents who are rightfully concerned about the surge in vehicles passing through our neighborhood. This measure would protect not only the residents living on Pary, but the many individuals who walk our sidewalks, drive our street, and use our road for parking.

Traffic volumes are increasing, and neglecting these issues could lead to accidents, which could tragically affect any of our families. We implore Brentwood’s decision-makers to prioritize the preservation of our brick roads and the implementation of crucial safety measures like speed bumps. These actions are essential to maintaining not only the neighborhood’s charm but also safeguarding its residents.

Please sign this petition to urge the authorities to keep Brentwood’s brick road intact and install a speed bump, ensuring our community remains safe and culturally rich. Together, we can preserve our cherished history while protecting our family and neighbors from unnecessary harm.
