Sep 28, 2017
ONLY ONE DAY TO GO until the deadline for DA2017/0354. This is your last opportunity to oppose Stages 2 & 3 of Penshurst Park's Masterplan - by Friday 29th September. Let's make sure Penshurst Park remains green and open to the local community, not plasticized and overloaded with too much sport, and car and bus parking.

Subject: DA2017/0354 Objection 643-643A King Georges Rd Penshurst
To whom it may concern
I hereby object to the above D.A. on the following grounds:
(a) Council is setting undesirable precedents by robbing its constituents of green space. Firstly with Myles Dunphy Reserve, in Oatley, and now through this application.
(b) The proposal blatantly conflicts with the Greater Sydney Commission's Goal No. 4, being "a sustainable and resilient city that protects the natural environment and has a balanced approach to the use of land and resources".
(c) The site is situated in an area of high population (on the border of Penshurst and adjacent to Hurstville). Further high density is slated in this vicinity. The development will be detrimental to the health of local residents who will lose the majority of their recreational space.
(d) Council has an obligation to support the needs of all residents and not simply bow to the pressure of any particular sporting lobby group.
(e) Consideration should be given to the devolution of the new facilities to other parks. Penshurst Park has already lost a sizeable part to the Aquatic Centre and should therefore be left as it is.
(f) Hurstville Oval is a renowned cricket ground, located within 500 metres of the site and more cricket facilities are unnecessary in the area.
(g) Cambridge and Percival streets are already used as short cuts and the generation of more traffic will be at the peril of residents and park users.
Thanking you
Peter Mahoney
