The Issue

Growing up in Central Avalon, west of the Salmonier Line, I have had the privilege of experiencing the beauty and serenity of "Ripple Pond" for over fifty-five years. This area holds a special place in my heart as it is where I learned to appreciate nature's wonders and develop a deep love for the great outdoors.

As a young child, I vividly remember spending countless hours exploring this pristine landscape with my Dad. Together, we built lasting memories while fishing, hunting, and engaging in various leisure activities. These experiences not only shaped my character but also instilled in me a profound respect for our natural environment.

As I transitioned into adulthood, it was only natural for me to pass down these traditions to my own children. Watching them embrace the same joys and adventures that once captivated me brought immeasurable happiness. Now, as I look towards the future generations of my family, it is my sincerest hope that they too will be able to partake in these cherished activities at "Ripple Pond."

However, there is a looming threat that could forever alter this precious haven – its designation as an ecological reserve under The Protected Areas Plan for the Island of Newfoundland. While conservation efforts are undoubtedly important and necessary in certain areas across our province, designating "Ripple Pond" as such would have severe negative consequences on its current and future users.

By transforming this beloved space into an ecological reserve without considering its historical significance or accommodating recreational activities enjoyed by countless individuals like myself and their families over generations would be unjustifiable. It is crucial to strike a balance between conservation efforts and preserving our cultural heritage.

I urge you all to join me in signing this petition against designating "Ripple Pond" as an ecological reserve under The Protected Areas Plan for the Island of Newfoundland. Let us protect our heritage, ensure the continuity of our traditions, and safeguard the right for future generations to experience the wonders of this remarkable place.

Together, we can make a difference and ensure that "Ripple Pond" remains accessible for all who wish to build memories, fish, hunt, and enjoy leisure activities in harmony with nature. Sign this petition today and let your voice be heard!
