Preserve Kirkham Road, Auburn: Say NO to Unnecessary Build of Childcare Facility

Preserve Kirkham Road, Auburn: Say NO to Unnecessary Build of Childcare Facility
The issue
We, the residents of Auburn, urgently request Cumberland Council to reject the proposed construction of an 88-capacity childcare facility at 33 Kirkham Road. This development threatens the residential nature and safety of our neighborhood.
Our key concerns:
- Unnecessary Development: Auburn already has significant childcare vacancies, with 30 of 41 centers showing capacity. Additional facilities are not needed, with 16 new childcare centers already approved to be built in the Cumberland Council area since June 2023.
- Traffic and Safety Risks: Kirkham Road is already congested with fast-moving traffic and insufficient parking. The proposed facility would exacerbate these issues, creating hazardous conditions for children and residents alike. These traffic conditions would have wider impacts on the whole Cumberland City Council area.
- Neighborhood Impact: The proposed two-story childcare center is out of place in our purely residential area, disrupting the character of the neighborhood. It will also reduce privacy, block sunlight, and increase noise to nearby homes.
We are not against development but urge that it be considerate of our community’s character and safety. We ask Cumberland Council to reject this proposal, preserving the well-being of our neighborhood.
