Preserve Keinton Mandeville's Ancient Orchard and Protect Our Community

The Issue

I, a resident of Keinton Mandeville and an individual deeply concerned about the future of our village, hereby start this petition to halt any further development in our beloved community. In particular, I urge you to oppose the proposed development (19/02211/OUT) that plans to construct 9 houses on the site of what was once an ancient orchard, where all but one of the apple trees were callously removed without consequence.

As a resident whose house is adjacent to this proposed site, I have witnessed firsthand the detrimental effects that previous developments have had on our village. The increased traffic and congestion caused by these projects have not only disrupted our peaceful way of life but also endangered the safety of pedestrians and drivers alike. It is crucial that we take a stand now before irreversible damage is done.

The proposed development will undoubtedly exacerbate these existing issues by adding more vehicles to our already overwhelmed roads. The consequences are not limited solely to traffic concerns; there are other well-documented adverse effects associated with such developments as well. These include strain on local infrastructure, loss of green spaces, destruction of wildlife habitats, and a decline in air quality – all factors that directly impact the health and wellbeing of our community.

To support my claims with accurate information:

1. Traffic Congestion:
According to data from Somerset County Council's Transportation Department (2019), Queen Street and High Street already experience dangerous levels of traffic congestion during peak hours due to inadequate road infrastructure.

2. Environmental Impact:
The removal of apple trees from an ancient orchard not only destroys historical heritage but also disrupts ecosystems vital for biodiversity conservation.

3. Health Concerns:
Increased traffic emissions contribute significantly to air pollution levels, which can lead to respiratory problems, cardiovascular diseases, and other health issues.

By signing this petition, you are joining me in urging the relevant authorities to reconsider the proposed development (19/02211/OUT) and protect our village from further harm. Together, we can preserve Keinton Mandeville's unique character and safeguard the wellbeing of our community.

Please sign this petition if you are a resident of Keinton Mandeville or if you care about preserving historical heritage, protecting the environment, and ensuring the safety and quality of life for all residents in our village.

Thank you for your support.
