Preserve George Washington’s Victory Site at Princeton

Preserve George Washington’s Victory Site at Princeton
The Issue
On January 3, 1777, with American independence hanging in the balance, George Washington launched a daring charge that decided the battle of Princeton and saved the American Revolution. Today, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Civil War Trust, and other preservation activists are engaged in a new fight at Princeton.
The battle was one of the defining moments in our nation’s history. In December 1776, the cause of American Independence seemed all but lost. But on the evening of December 25, George Washington and his outnumbered army launched an audacious 10-day campaign that culminated in the Battle of Princeton. His daring efforts reinvigorated the American cause and marked a decisive turning point in the Revolutionary War.
Today, a critical portion of the Princeton battlefield is under imminent threat of development. The Institute for Advanced Study is planning to build 15 faculty houses on Maxwell’s Field, the site where Washington’s famous charge struck the British lines and transformed the battle into a momentous victory.
We need concerned citizens such as yourself to add your voice to those who are urging protection of this hallowed battleground and national treasure. Please join us by signing this petition opposing development of historic Maxwell’s Field at Princeton.
