Preserve Gafgen Farm in Robbinsville, NJ

The Issue

IMPORTANT:  Do NOT donate any money to Change.org.

The Gafgen farm (a.k.a. Lavender Farm, Serenity Farms) located off Tindall Rd is for sale. This farm is one of the few parcels of land left in Robbinsville to preserve as open space, but Robbinsville residents voted against increasing taxes to preserve this farm on the November 2022 ballot.

There are two important reasons every Robbinsville resident (age 18+) should sign this FREE petition to Preserve the Gafgen farm:

  1. Residents assumed that preserving this open space would take money away from the school budget and impact teacher salaries. This is 100% false. The school budget is a separate legal entity with a separate budget. In fact, preserving this farm will help the school district. Why? If the Gafgen farm is sold to a developer to build a maximum of 14 homes (per the sign on Tindall Rd), this adds approximately 24-35 students to our already crowded school district. The cost to educate these students goes up every year, and this is on top of the school district struggling to keep up with teacher salaries and teacher retention. More homes = higher school taxes for every Robbinsville resident. No money can be taken from the Robbinsville school district budget to preserve this open space. And, no money from the town can be used to pay teacher salaries. The school board and the town are separate legal entities with completely separate budgets.
  2. Residents voted against a tax increase, so the town legally cannot raise open space taxes to preserve this farm. But if the farm is sold to a developer, taxes will increase for ALL Robbinsville residents. Why? The town will need to provide municipal services to this new neighborhood including garbage collection, sewer upkeep, and snow plowing. If you do not want the municipal portion of your taxes to increase, sign this petition.

For more information on how preserving this Open Space will save you money, please read the cover article, The Future of Open Space, in the March 2023 issue of the Robbinsville Advance.

Do NOT chip in to donate any money to support this petition. Instead, please opt to share this petition for free with every adult in your household and all your friends, neighbors, and contacts who are Robbinsville, NJ residents. The good news is the Robbinsville Township Council wants to preserve this farm so they don't have to increase your municipal taxes, but they need to hear that Robbinsville residents want them to preserve this open space.

Thank you for your support,

The Preserve Gafgen Farm Committee
