Preserve Franklin County's Charm by Outlawing PUDs
The Issue
Franklin County, a uniquely beautiful region in the Panhandle of Florida, is renowned for its stunning pine forests, white sandy beaches, and nutrient-rich marine ecosystems. From the tranquil beauty of Tate's Hell State Forest to the pristine beaches of Carrabelle and the Barrier Islands, our region is not merely a place we inhabit. It is a cherished sanctuary that holds historical significance and ecological value. Whether it's the vibrant, nutrient-rich waters of Apalachicola Bay or the quaint, historic charm of our county seat, Apalachicola, Franklin County embodies a peaceful and harmonious life in tune with nature.
We, the residents of this picturesque area, are deeply committed to preserving our serene environment, the character of our small fishing towns, and the privacy and tranquility we've come to love. However, the looming threat of Planned Urban Developments (PUDs) puts this at risk. PUDs can lead to increased housing density, create traffic congestion, and encroach upon our precious wetlands. The introduction of PUDs could also result in unwanted high rises and the subsequent degradation of our forests - negatively impacting the very essence of what makes our community so special.
While addressing the pressing need for workforce housing is important, allowing PUDs is not the solution. Instead, we propose the establishment of a Special District. This approach provides a tailored solution to the workforce housing issue without compromising our environmental integrity or community charm. By creating a Special District, we can ensure the development of housing that meets the needs of our community without succumbing to high-density nightmares or traffic issues that compromise our way of life.
Join us in taking a stand to keep the 2018 ordinance in place, outlawing PUDs in Franklin County. Help protect our forests, wetlands, and cherished way of life by signing this petition. Our county's future depends on the choices we make today. Choose to preserve Franklin County's charm and tranquility for generations to come.
