Preserve Fellsmere’s FL Rural Character: keeping it a small town. (Legacy Landing)

The Issue

Fellsmere is valued for its small-town character and close-knit community. Many residents are concerned that the proposed Legacy Landing project of 231 townhomes near SR 512 and Mesa Park could place additional pressure on roads, infrastructure, and public services, while changing the character of our town.

The developers have been discussing this project with the city for over two years. Although it may seem like progress, there are concerns that infrastructure may already be near capacity such as our roads, as they stand today, are busy enough without the additional strain that hundreds of new homes would bring. Increased traffic will not only make our commutes longer and more stressful but also potentially endanger pedestrians and cyclists in our community.

Moreover, this kind of rapid development would mean erecting more buildings, which could significantly change the landscape of our beloved town. The presence of high-density housing such as the proposed townhomes can disrupt the quaint, serene environment we currently enjoy and may contribute to overcrowding and place additional strain on our public resources like schools, parks, and emergency services. It is essential that we focus on maintaining the current charm and authenticity of Fellsmere, rather than succumbing to overdevelopment.

The decision to permit this project rests in the hands of our local government, and we have the power to influence their decision. We urge our city council members to vote NO on the Legacy Landing townhomes proposition. Our voice is strongest when it is united, which is why we need your help.

Join us at the upcoming City Council meeting on April 16, 2026, at 7:00 PM for the first reading at City Council Chambers, 22 S. Orange Street, Fellsmere, FL. Your presence and support can make a significant difference.

Additionally, mark your calendars for May 07 2026, at 5:05 PM, another critical date when the Planning and Zoning Commission will address this issue.

Together, let's protect the character and future of Fellsmere. Sign this petition to show your support for preserving the essence of our town and to stand against development many residents believe is not sustainable for current infrastructure. Our town's identity is in our hands; let's ensure it remains ours.
