Preserve Downtown Wayne - A Call to Action
Preserve Downtown Wayne - A Call to Action
The Issue

Recently, plans for development at 118-120 North Wayne Avenue have been unveiled, causing significant concern among residents and business owners alike. Why we are concerned:
1. The Process Is Moving Ahead Before Community Planning Is Complete: Radnor Township is currently conducting its "Vision for Wayne" initiative to gather public input on the future of downtown. Major redevelopment decisions should not move forward until that process is complete and residents, businesses, and stakeholders have had meaningful opportunities to participate.
2. Downtown Wayne's Character and Historic Identity Are at Risk: Wayne is home to irreplaceable structures dating back to the 19th century. The buildings at 118–120 North Wayne Avenue are part of the fabric that gives Wayne its unique charm, walkability, and sense of place. Any redevelopment should respect the historic character of downtown and preserve the qualities that make Wayne a vibrant community.
3. Construction Will Have Significant Community and Economic Impacts: Demolition and construction lasting up to two years will disrupt local businesses, reduce access and parking, affect outdoor dining, and threaten beloved events including the Wayne Music Festival, Fall Festival, and Wheels of Wayne.
4. Environmental and Infrastructure Questions Must Be Fully Addressed: Before approvals move forward, the project should undergo thorough review of potential environmental hazards, stormwater management, traffic impacts, and risks to neighboring buildings and infrastructure. Residents deserve confidence that these issues have been carefully evaluated.
Our Request: We urge the Radnor Township Board of Commissioners and the project developers to pause advancement of this proposal until the Vision for Wayne process is complete, the community has been fully engaged, and all environmental and infrastructure concerns have been adequately addressed. Community members have a right to be heard!
How You Can Help:
• Attend the Radnor Township Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m. Note: parking is limited; please consider walking/carpooling.
• Contact your commissioner and share your concerns.
• Encourage fellow residents, business owners, and stakeholders to stay informed and participate in the process.
We strongly urge the Radnor Township Board of Commissioners and the developers to pause this development project. This pause will provide the necessary time to engage thoroughly with residents, consider the long-term consequences, and ensure any development enhances rather than detracts from our community's character.
Please sign this petition to protect the integrity of Wayne’s downtown and ensure responsible development that respects our shared cultural and environmental heritage.
