The empty lot at Camino Capistrano and Gable Street was just listed for sale- let's try to get Dana Point to make it a park!!!

This petition is meant to create solidarity and organization within our community.
It is MORE important to go to our main info page (click here) to:

1. Write Emails to city council members and appropriate city workers.
2. Attend city planning meetings
3. Join our Facebook group to organize and be notified of action steps.

The open lot at Gable Street and Camino Capistrano in Capistrano Beach has recently been listed for sale. For generations, this space has served as a quiet gathering place where neighbors could take in the stunning ocean views and sunsets that make our community so special.

Even after the property was fenced in recent years, residents have continued to pause, look through the fence, and appreciate the shimmering ocean and beautiful sunsets. This speaks to how meaningful this space is to the people who live here.

Now, with the property on the market, we have a rare and time-sensitive opportunity.

This petition has been created to urge the City of Dana Point to explore purchasing this property and preserving it as a small community park and open space—one that can be enjoyed by residents and future generations alike.

We recognize that the current property owners deserve fair market value. At the same time, we believe this is one of the last remaining ocean-view parcels in our neighborhood, and once it is developed into private housing, the opportunity for shared community use will be lost forever.

Developing this lot into another large private home would not only eliminate public access to these views, but could also impact the character of the neighborhood—blocking views, casting shade on the surrounding streets, and removing a unique and meaningful gathering place.

While 92629 (greater Dana Point) boasts multiple large parks and community spaces, at a ratio of one park per 457 households, 92624 (Capistrano Beach) only has 3 community parks with a ratio of one park per 939 households.

This campaign will require more than signatures. We are asking community members to stay engaged by:

Contacting Dana Point City Council members and staff
Attending City Council and Planning Commission meetings
Spreading awareness within the neighborhood
We believe our tax dollars should be invested in ways that directly benefit the community—this is one of those opportunities.

In addition to signing this petition, please visit our campaign website for next steps and instructions on how to get involved. You can also join our Facebook group to stay informed with updates and opportunities to take action.

Together, we can work to preserve this special place and ensure it remains a space for connection, reflection, and appreciation of the beauty of our coastline.

Thank you for your support.
