Preserve Aragorn's Legacy. Bring Back a better Aragorn. Remove Jamie Dornan.

The Issue

We are lifelong admirers of J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium and cherish the extraordinary cinematic legacy crafted by Peter Jackson's original trilogy. We express our concerns not out of hostility, but from a profound respect for Middle-earth and its meaning to millions of devotees worldwide. Aragorn, son of Arathorn, Strider, the Dúnedain Ranger, the reluctant king, is a cornerstone of literary and cinematic heritage, and any portrayal of this character demands an actor capable of capturing his depth and complexity.

Aragorn, as portrayed by Viggo Mortensen, set a benchmark that resonated deeply with fans, creating an indelible mark on our collective imagination. His portrayal was both solemn and powerful, a testament to Peter Jackson's vision 25 years ago which we fear may dissipate with reckless casting decisions.

The unfortunate reality is that our world often falls short, but Middle-earth serves as a refuge where we seek continuity, authenticity, and respect. While change is inevitable in cinematic adaptations, it is crucial that such changes honor the essence of what's come before. Any new adaptation of Aragorn's character must be approached with the same meticulous care and reverence bestowed upon the original portrayal.

The risk of diluting the impact of Aragorn's character is significant, and it threatens to unravel the narrative tapestry woven by Tolkien and enriched by Jackson's films. We urge the studios involved to exhibit thoughtfulness and integrity in their casting choices, ensuring that the new portrayal aligns with the spirit and the legacy that fans hold dear.

By signing this petition, we call upon decision-makers to preserve the authenticity of Middle-earth and safeguard the legacy that has inspired generations. Let us ensure that Aragorn's journey, and the world he inhabits, remain as powerful and impactful as they have always been. Please sign to support thoughtful casting decisions that respect the legacy of Aragorn.

We wished that Viggo Mortensen could return, but it was the actor's choice to decline the role; at least we want another actor in his thirties. We apologize, but Jamie Dornan isn't that.
