My daughter, who has no sense of recognition of danger, relies on our local crossing guard, Angela, to safely navigate our town's busy streets during peak times on her way to school. Our primary school is situated perilously close to a heavily trafficked road and an industrial estate, around which wagons, cars, motorbikes, and quads are continuously present. Unpredictable drivers, coupled with these other variables, add to the potential hazards our children face every day. Angela serves as our frontline of protection. A vivid example of Angela's critical role occurred when a child with additional needs ended up dangerously close to the road. Angela stepped in and ensured her safety, something we are immensely grateful for. Statistically speaking, pedestrian accidents account for a significant portion of injuries among school-age children (SafeKids Worldwide). In an environment where Angela's invaluable service is not present, the risk would undoubtedly increase. Losing Angela would put our children in jeopardy and compromise their ability to get to school safely. Keep Angela in her role to ensure the safety of our children.
