Durham’s neighborhoods, especially places like East Durham, once filled with rich black and brown culture, are now dotted with those generic, stark triangular-roofed houses. It’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about what these houses represent. They signify a wave of gentrification that’s pushing out residents who’ve called this place home for generations. I’ve seen firsthand how this affects families who want to stay in their homes and communities but are being priced out. It’s not fair.
