Preserve Access to Penrith Town Centre for All

The Issue

I am deeply concerned about the potential closure of Penrith town centre to traffic. This move would not only make access impossible for disabled and elderly individuals like myself but also negatively impact local businesses and shoppers who rely on convenient parking within the centre. The rerouting of traffic through inadequate roads is another worrying consequence that could lead to congestion and safety issues.

The 'pedestrian only' policy implemented during COVID-19 was met with widespread disapproval, even leading to public demonstrations by both residents and business owners. It's clear that such a policy does not serve the best interests of our community.

Furthermore, according to data from the Department for Transport, 13% of people in England either have or are eligible for a Blue Badge (source: Department for Transport). This means that potentially hundreds or even thousands of Penrith residents could be affected by this change.

We must protect access to our town centre – it is vital for our community's economy, accessibility, and overall quality of life. Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving access to Penrith town centre for all its users.
