For years, Academy of Art University has been taking advantage of the students that attend this private institution. President Elisa Stephens has taken it upon herself to send out false hope to her students by allowing us to believe that we can build careers as artists - but which may never actually become reality for some of us. Every year, tuition at AAU increases and the trend doesn’t look like it’s going to stop. It places an undue burden on incoming freshmen who enroll in AAU with the dream of getting their degree, but end up having to drop out because of the outrageous cost of tuition. It condemns those who do graduate to a lifetime of debt that they may or may not ever be able to pay off. AAU is a good school with a large student population - why is tuition so high, and always increasing? Elisa Stephens says that the increases are to ensure students have access to state of the art technology, but her net worth is over $800 million and rising.
