My name is Ana and I am a daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Asturian miners. When I saw that the Mining Rescue Brigade of Asturias was going to take care of the rescue of the little Julen, I could not stop but think of my grandfather. He is now 84 years old and I would love for him to be able to see an international recognition of the hard profession he has held for so many years.

Unfortunately, Spain now mourns the death of Julen, who has been found lifeless after rushing down a well in Totalán, Málaga.

Many people have signed this petition these days because in front of all this horror that we have witnessed and this terrible outcome, they feel that we have all been united in the face of pain, and all applauding the immense work that the miners have done.

For those who do not know the history of the Mining Rescue Brigade of Asturias, this team has coordinated and carried out rescues since 1912. Their experience and knowledge have always been fundamental in all the operations they have carried out.

In 1972, the Minister of Labor, Mr. Licinio de la Fuente, presented the Gold Medal for Merit at Work to the Brigade. "This is the Laureate of peace, the most important decoration, the prize for sacrifice, dedication, courage and solidarity, it is the recognition of Spain as a whole to your work".

In a totally altruistic way, these 8 miners offered their skills and knowledge, and risked their lives too, to try to save the little child.

For all the efforts and achievements of this Brigade, and their totally disinterested contribution in this cause, we requested the Princess of Asturias Award of Concord for the Hunosa Mining Rescue Brigade. Sign this petition to make this possible.
