CHILDREN OF THE STATE. Child protection agencies are destroying families.

The Issue

Child and Family Protection Agencies across our country are out of control. These child “protection” agencies are walking into private homes and taking the children away from their parents illegally and with inappropriate force and violence. This abuse of power has been going on for years and is going on RIGHT NOW and it is our children and their families that are suffering the devastating losses.

Private corporations in Canada make their money by taking children away from their parents and placing them in foster care, group homes, institutions or for adoption. These agencies cannot make money unless they take people’s kids. They hunt for vulnerable families to exploit: often the ones who cannot afford lawyers.

Many children are apprehended without a court order. The corporate employees just come to your home and forcibly remove your kids with the police. If your kids refuse to go with the police or resist apprehension the police can hand cuff and shackle your children. Babies and children are taken from their parent’s arms. No family is safe anymore. One lawyer assessed 15 families in Alberta whose children were taken and she concluded that only two of these families should have had their kids apprehended and the vast majority, the other 13 families, should not have had their kids taken. The apprehension can be very violent like in the case of the Lee Family of Calgary. 15-25 police showed up with a helicopter in the air and two social workers.

The first thing they do is take away the parents’ rights to have access to their own kids. Too often, it’s “temporary custody” and then they go for “permanent custody” so they can warehouse them and bill the taxpayer for that or adopt them out to strangers which means you have lost your rights to be in your own children’s life—for what? MONEY!!!!

80% of these kids are drugged with dangerous psychotropic drugs. 50% of these kids will be on drugs for life. In the case of the Lee Family, their 3 kids were drugged right in their own home during the apprehension and the youngest child, Owen, was admitted to the Woods Homes Children Mental Health Center. Owen was electric shocked. They said he wasn’t listening. He is 7 years old.

The children are alienated from their parents, told lies like their parents are not good parents, the children cannot make phone calls to their parents, the parents and children meet in supervised visits where what they can say and do are strictly monitored. This protects those who have abused their powers in unjustly taking the children. These children have no voice in court about what they want. They are instead represented by a court appointed lawyer who will speak for them and often not in the “child’s best interest.” No free speech here. While in foster care if there is sexual abuse, neglect and violence they are not helped by the agency to sue for damages as our law states to protect the children. Hence no one is accountable for how these kids are treated or their deaths.

Most kids in foster care want just one thing--to go home!!!

Our foster care system is a dismal failure. 80% of the kids who are sex trafficked are from foster care. 80% of the people who end up in prison are from foster care. The homeless, sick, drug addicted and poor begging on our streets are often from foster care. Kids do not get a good education when they are in foster care. They often have problems caring for themselves when they age out of the system at 18 and many will end up in trouble with the law. Government studies show that kids from foster care are sicker, have more mental and emotional health problems, problems with relationships, parenting, school, work – basically, their lives.

One foster family had 9 girls and another couple had 12. Some kids are sent to many different foster homes -- like two girls who were sent to 68 different foster homes. That is a lot of trauma. Foster parents get between $1500 to $3,000 monthly for each child if not more. If a child is labelled with mental health problems, they get more money for each label. One child was labelled with 7 mental illnesses. He was 2 years old, native and one of the best kids I have ever known. All the money to foster parents is tax free plus they get respite care so they can have a “vacation from the kids”.

Now 9-12 kids in your custody; that is a year salary of between $150 to $200K plus these kids can clean your home, cook meals and care for younger children. How about giving the birth families more help and keeping families together? We could save tax payers millions and millions of dollars by helping birth families stay together. The worst thing you can do is separate kids from their parents and families who love them. Many such kids join gangs to replace those family ties and commit acts of violence and other crimes in our major cities every evening.

Every year thousands of kids die while in care in Canada. We have a book of many stories, see the book, “Protecting Canadian Children.” In Alberta in 2018, many coroners quit their jobs. Why? Did they object to the death reports being falsified? See the Ontario Chief Coroner’s Report 2018. 1065 kids aged 0-18 died in Ontario alone. Many of these tragic deaths were children in “protective care” and 40% of these fit the criteria for a coroner’s investigation. How many is that across our nation yearly? Many kids who go “missing” while in “protective” care also go unreported by these child protection agencies.

These privately-owned organizations working in Canada are exploiting children and
taxpayers are footing the bill. The Canadian people are wrongly informed. They think the parents must have done something to have their kids removed from them. The Child and Family Services say, “There is more to this story than you know,” to create suspicion of the parents as if vilifying families justifies what they are doing.

This is not about bad parenting. This is about income-focussed corporate activity whose management and employees seem to regard children as nothing more than a revenue source, a commodity like canned goods. The agencies have their quotas of how many children they need to take in each month to keep their revenues up and then they go out hunting to fill those quotas. Their target are your children. This is happening in Alberta and the rest of Canada and it has happened for a very long time. It needs to stop now.

Let’s protect our kids and their families from unwarranted seizure and detention. Let start with brining the Child and Family Services of each province and territory under control, under the law. An independent oversight body is urgently needed to check these abuses and to make the abusers accountable. Let’s really help our families to be happy and prosperous. Families are the basic units of all societies. When we don’t protect our most vulnerable people—our precious children-- our society cannot be healthy and strong. To those foster parents who work hard, honestly to protect children we thank you for your sincere work. Some kids need to be removed and protected from their parents. But do you know where those kids your are caring for are coming from and if they were removed unnecessarily?
