This week Dorset Council Mayor, Greg Howard penned an opinion piece in the local newspaper, The North East Advertiser, taking a swipe at the tourism sector, and local north east Tasmanian businesses calling for an end to native forest logging.
His claims that those businesses who signed our Open Letter to protect our native forests have contributed little to their own success may be a point of disagreement when our Derby based signatories include the largest property management business in the area, and multiple businesses who took home awards at the recent Tasmania Tourism awards. See our website (bluederbywild.org for the full list of signatories).
It's worth noting Dorset Council own the Blue Derby mountain bike brand and built the trails with a mix of federal and taxpayer grants. They are digging in on their refusal to protect the forests of Krushka's, Atlas and the Blue Tier that hold the most successful mountain bike destination in Tasmania, and with statements like this attempting to bully local businesses into silence. Help us break the silence and send a clear message to @bluederby that our forests are worth more standing.
Tasmania, we can do better!
