We are asking Premier League match officials and PGMOL to do their job properly, apply the Laws of the Game consistently, and put an end to the growing feeling among fans that some clubs are treated differently from others. Football only works when everyone can trust that the same foul gets the same decision, whoever commits it and whoever it's committed against.

The new season has barely started, and the same pattern that plagued last year is already back, which is embarrassing to watch:

• During the community shield game on August 16th, Arsenal's defender Gabriel pulled at Khusanov during a corner, then went down. He and his coaching staff appealed for a penalty and like a big offense was made, when the situation was created by Gabriel. That should have been a yellow card for simulation. Sanctioning this kind of behaviour immediately is the only way to stop players from repeating it.
• Myles Lewis-Skelly stepped on and crushed the foot of Elliot Anderson. That is a serious offence and should have been a straight red card. Letting it go unpunished is infuriating.

These are not isolated incidents. Last season alone, no fewer than 25 refereeing errors went in Arsenal's favour, including:

• Saliba pulled Mason Mount, shirt during a corner against Manchester United, preventing Altay Bayindir from properly punching away the cross. No foul given, but a goal allowed to Arsenal 
• Trossard blocking Todibo at a corner against West Ham, forcing him to put his hand on David Raya, yet the foul was given against West Ham. This is exactly the same situation like against United, but different issue from the referees
• Kai Havertz stamping directly on Lesley Ugochukwu's ankle against Burnley, with no foul given at all.
• Mikel Merino committing a foul against Aston Villa that should have been a second yellow card, with no card shown. This was admitted by almost each professional after the incident.
• Declan Rice handling the ball at a corner against Chelsea, with no foul given.
• William Saliba wrapping both arms around João Pedro at a corner against Chelsea, with no foul given.

And so many others.

We highlight Arsenal because they are the reigning champions and the club that benefits most from this kind of favourable officiating. A champion should be held to a higher standard, not a lower one, and should never be shielded from scrutiny while other clubs are punished for the same offences.

In our view some clubs tactics are based on finding limits of the game and confusion to win games, this should stop. 

This inconsistency is a scandal, and it is damaging the integrity of the competition for every fan, of every club, watching every week.

We call on the Premier League, PGMOL, and match officials to:

• Apply the Laws of the Game consistently, regardless of which club is involved
• Review and strengthen VAR protocols so that clear fouls, handballs, and cautionable offences stop being overlooked
• Increase transparency and accountability when officiating errors are identified after the fact.
