The Issue
Since 2008 Lenny Henry has captured the minds, hearts and souls of this generation through his Premier Inn advertisements. In these advertisements Lenny, as himself endears the audience through his warm exterior, kind heart and knack for discovering hotel rooms at low low prices. Personally Lenny has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, his shining white smile brightening even the darkest of times. When I fell in love, Lenny was there. When I first brought my own flesh and blood into this world Lenny was there. When I found my wife with another man, Lenny was there, in my bed. Seeing Lenny Henry on my awesome 32" plasma flat screen with Panasonic surround sound, bluetooth connection and wireless subwoofer is enough to make me forget my cares for the brief 30 seconds that his glorious shining beard and cheeky laddish grin is on screen. Lenny has had a huge impact on my life and how I live it, I only eat a full English for breakfast, my pajamas are purple pinstripe and of course I've never spent a full minute in a travel lodge without being physically repulsed. Imagine my surprise then when I sit down in front of my awesome 32" plasma flat screen with Panasonic surround sound, bluetooth connection and wireless subwoofer to watch the new Premier Inn advert and I see no Lenny?!
These are worrying times indeed and the glorious Sir Leonard of House Premier is battling the dark forces known as marketing execs. In an attempt to "evolve" what the brand stands for they have replaced Lenny and in doing so disgraced his very name. Quite frankly this is an outrage. Lenny represents all that Premier Inn is supposed to stand for and removing him his an affront to his very character. We want Lenny Henry restored to his rightful place on our tv screens and we won't take no for an answer.
