Support the Marching Storm
The Issue
The Marching Storm needs to be more of a priority at PVAMU. In 2020, PV cut 70% of the band's budget. We have been the face and spirit of the school for generations, and all we ask is for the proper facilities and resources to continue producing stellar shows on and off the field. Most would never guess the countless hours we have spent practicing outside without a roof over our heads or the damages to our instruments that have long since been overdue for repair. Even after voicing our needs with administration members, we were merely offered a place to rehearse outside in a designated parking lot under awnings. Instead of getting an increase in our scholarship budget after the substantial cut, they offered the solution of putting a cap on the number of people that are allowed in the Storm. The provost also offered that the Storm should “recruit more students from Texas” to respond to the number of out-of-state students we have, even though the band is made up of 92% Texas students. This blatantly shows that the Storm is worth very little in the eyes of those above us. Despite these challenges, even on top of performing with excellence in the classroom and reaching a 90% passing rate, we still hold our heads high as we march the campus outward and onward. The Storm hopes to resolve this issue peacefully. We hope you continue to enjoy the energy and school pride we will exude regardless of our situation and appreciate your support in our struggles as we hope to obtain what we need to produce exponentially spectacular entertainment for even more years to come.
To give a more significant explanation as to what is going on, here is a description of what we aim to achieve:
• A band hall to facilitate the whole band
• Spacious dance room facility for all auxiliary members
• An indoor temporary practice space until a new band hall is built
• A bigger space to accommodate the 2,598 uniforms for instrumentalists, staff, and auxiliary
• Elevator repair in Hobart so that we don’t have to carry large amounts of uniforms, instruments, and packs of water up the stairs
• New instruments to replace all of the broken/damaged ones
• Professional media equipment so that the media team can properly capture the Storms events
• An increase in the Scholarship Budget to help support Storm members financially
• Hobart renovations to give the storm an effective way to practice outside of rehearsal
• Academic assistants to support/tutor Storm members with their studies
