Help Save Poway's Big Stone Lodge

The Issue

If the city of Poway has their way, one of Poway's most historical features will be demolished and turned into more housing that we don't need. See more photos and learn about the history of Big Stone Lodge and the stage coach route it was part of here: https://hiddensandiego.net/poway-stage-coach-stop.php

Big Stone Lodge and the surrounding Old Coach Road area have a history that goes back to the stage route that connected San Diego and Escondido in the 19th century. The stage stop was nearby. The lodge itself was a restaurant, a dance hall and a honky tonk.

The first gas station was adjacent. The Picnic grounds, under the shade of oak trees, were extremely popular. The stone architecture is unique and notable. In keeping with the intent, stated in 2005, of preserving the site as a passive park, and the 1999 declaration of BSL as a historic feature, the city should preserve as much of possible of the complex's walls and preserve the rest as a passive park for picnicking and leisure activities as well as a rest spot for hikers, rider and bikers on the trail that passes through.
