As COVID-19 continues sweeps the United States, students will continue to struggle. Families are being laid off, amenities are becoming difficult to come by, and stress is high in virtually every household in the United States. Here in Colorado, there are 1,088 cases as of March 26th, and that number will continue to rise. Coloradans are struggling, and the end of this epidemic is not likely to happen soon. The movement to distance learning will not affect every student in the same way, and with the stressors of COVID-19, we cannot expect students to be able to give 100% of what they have been in the traditional learning environment. Thus, the movement to a Pass or Fail system ensures security in students' GPAs while allowing them to partake in whatever that individual may be going through as a result of the current state. 

As we have seen over the past few days, many high-level schools will be making the transition to the Pass/Fail system. Some of those schools are:

Harvard 
Embry-Riddle 
University of Wisconsin - Madison
West Virginia University

This list is not exhausted and is continuing to expand. These schools admit by moving to the pass or fail, there is no grading system complex enough to judge the grades of students with current events. It is time for the Poudre School District to lead by example and move to a Pass or Fail system to prioritize the success of the student.
