(Above is the written letter to Poudre High School and Poudre School District)

On Saturday May 30, 2020 Poudre High School student, C.F made an explicitly racist post. Poudre High School students, alumni, and community are outraged by this heinous act. The administrators has stated that they are  “investigating and assessing the situation”  but this is not enough. This student deserves a suspension at the very least but an expulsion would be a more appropriate action. How many of Poudre High School’s students of color are going to feel safe at school knowing their administration failed to take action against a situation that threatened their existence?

We demand transparency throughout the course of the investigation. The student in question clearly broke the student code of conduct harassment policy and should be held accountable. We demand that the school district make it a priority to include language in its code of conduct which details how it will handle racist incidents in the future. Students need clear direction on why this behavior is unacceptable, consequences for engaging in racist actions, and educational interventions intended to disrupt cycles of white supremacy which are pervasive in our society and school system. It is the duty of the school district to take an active role in ensuring cultural competency among its student, staff, and administrative communities. This is your opportunity to uphold and actualize equity, diversity, inclusion and justice within the school district.

We are demanding:

Disciplinary action in the form of expulsion for C.F. due to the act of terror he committed that clearly broke the student code of conduct harassment policy

Formalized policies and processes that clearly state how the school district will respond to racist incidents in the future including disciplinary action for people who carry out those actions and educational interventions to prevent future incidents and create a safe environment for marginalized students
