Potbelly / Mini Pigs are pets NOT livestock - Amend this ordinance

The Issue

Petunia and Beetlejuice, Vietnamese Potbelly pigs and beloved family pets, will have to leave their Cobb County home. They are sweet and spoiled babies and will face a very traumatic and uncertain future if they are removed from their home.

The reason for this is an outdated and miss informed ordinance written in the 1970s.

In Cobb County Ga. Petunia and Beetlejuice are classified as livestock animals and not as pets.

The definition of Livestock is as follows: "Farm animals regarded as an asset"

Potbelly / Mini pigs are not assets, they have no productive value. They do not provide sustenance or revenue. They are not raised as meat pigs. They serve one purpose and that is to be loved and eat our snacks.

Mini Pigs are clean, sentimental, and extremely intelligent. Pigs are the fifth most intelligent animal in the world.  They organize their living spaces, they will not potty where they sleep, they can play video games, do tricks, be potty trained, and possess emotional intelligence and loyalty to their families. Pigs bond to their humans and do not adjust well to change. They grieve the loss of their family. Rehoming a domesticated minipig can be detrimental to their wellbeing.

Minipigs are a misunderstood breed and often abandoned. This leads to a large number of them being euthanized in the SPCA system.

We love petunia and Beetlejuice. Here are some facts that will make you love them as well:

How we got her: She found us herself! She walked onto the property all on her own four years ago. She had been set loose, and despite many attempts to find her family no one came for her. So, we built her a house and welcomed her home.

Why did we need two minipigs?

Finding Beetlejuice: We were doing research about how to increase Petunia's quality of life and found that minipigs are 1) Prey animals 2) Herd animals. That require companionship and will become depressed if they are alone. So, we found Beetlejuice, who has the cutest Michael Keaton eyes (dark black circles to go with his black and white striped coat) and fell in love on the spot.

Where do they live?

They have a beautiful home with a tin roof that is actually painted to match our own home! with a lot of soft hay, roots to munch on, in a predator / Hawk-safe fenced in area that is maintained for cleanliness. They also like to hangout in the main house (until they get bored).

Favorite Snack:

Petunia: apples and peanuts.

Beetlejuice: has never turned down a snack.

Favorite scratch spot:

Both: Behind the ears, sides of their bellies, and on top of the noggin.

Nicknames:

Petunia: Tunes / Tunie / Tunia.

Beetlejuice: BJ / Beej / Boogie.

Likes:

Petunia: Naps in the sun, Apples, Dinner time, Scratches.

Beetlejuice: Snacks, Dinner time, Tipping over the water bowl, Petunia.

DISLIKES:

Both: Going to see Doc. Win at the vet's office.

By signing this petition, you can amend this ordinance, and save Petunia from being displaced- again and Beetlejuice from facing an uncertain future where we cannot ensure their safety. Signing this petition will help ensure that no more pet pigs are incorrectly classified as livestock and made to leave their families.

WE ONLY HAVE 10 DAYS.
