February 4th, is Mrs. Rosa Parks birthday. It would have been her 104th birthday. We salute her and the women of St. Thaddeus. In the 1950’s, African-American Catholics in the Lilydale (Roseland) neighborhood in Chicago united together to request a Catholic church be built in their area. They had requested Sunday and daily masses. They wanted school that their children could attend without being bused. The Lady’s Guild was founded in 1958. It was the first organization of St. Thaddeus Parish. It was due to the hard work by the Lady’s Guild and other women that St. Thaddeus was built in 1959. Let’s celebrate the contributions of our women!
