As an Admin of Lost Pets of Auto Accidents (LPOAA) page on Facebook so many of the posts we receive involve a vehicle theft with a beloved pet inside. The lives of so many innocent pets are lost due to the fear of criminal charges being filed against the individual whom has stolen the vehicle. Many people are in agony not over the fact of the stolen vehicle but over the loss of their pet! Many, if not all of them would do anything to have them returned home safely and not care about anything else.

A law needs to be put into place where minimal or mitigated factors would be taken into consideration against the perpetrators in the event of a stolen vehicle with a pet inside; once safely returned to the rightful owner. Another option would be to set up safe drop off locations where these pets could be dropped off with no questions asked! This would guarantee that many of these animals would have a chance at surviving!

When car thefts occur it is not the initial intention to have a pet inside or to have to deal with it when it does happen. Unfortunately, once in the situation many don't want the legal repercussion or don't know how to handle it and our pets inevitability suffer the greatest because of it.
