Melanie Summers started this petition to Politicians

Currently, all people in England receive free NHS prescriptions when they turn 60, but the government is looking to align the upper age exemption for prescription charges with the State Pension age. This means those aged between 60 to 65 will no longer benefit from free prescriptions if this upper age exemption rises.

Unless this proposal is stopped, anyone who requires medication will have to pay for it from the age of 60, and the more medications you need the costlier it will be. At a time in life when work may not be readily available or even possible anymore,  anyone needing regular and/or multiple prescriptions will be seriously financially affected by this change. The result of any financial hardship would be an inability to afford to buy medication or using out of date medicine to try and get by.

While helping to protect ourselves by living a healthy life, health issues can occur with ageing and the current system of free prescriptions for all over 60 helps those who need it most.
