CCTV in the operation room for preventing ghost surgeries in Korea

The Issue

There are countless deaths and permanent injuries because of ghost surgeries in Korea. A ghost surgery takes place when the surgeon is an unauthorized person, such as nurses and inexperienced doctors, and is doing the surgery without the patient's consent. There is no law that can punish doctors who are doing surgery illegally without patient consent to make lots of money. It started from plastic surgery hospitals and now has spread to every medical field in Korea. In order to prevent ghost surgeries, we need CCTVs in the operation room in Korea.

My mom got double knee surgery but while she was numbed up with anesthesia, an unauthorized (ghost) doctor came in and gave her bad surgery. Ever since then she has had so much pain - like chopping her knees with a knife. The hospital fabricated documents in order to hide the hospital's faults. She lost 8,000 dollars and lost two legs so she can not walk by herself anymore. She has to use a wheelchair now. She never even used a cane before. Even though we can see ghost doctors doing surgeries illegally through CCTV, prosecutors and judges never prosecute them for their criminal actions. So criminal people who are disguised with doctor’s clothing keep doing illegal surgeries and put so many people in danger. Many families of injured patients have tried to sue the hospitals or doctors. It is so hard to win and prove their faults because they can easily fabricate medical documents. CCTV can capture criminal actions and can record the evidence that patients need to win their cases.

Please help us make CCTV in operation rooms the law. Don't think this only happens to other people - you, or those you care about can be all patients someday. Operation rooms are not safe in Korea. K-ghost surgeries should not be happening. We must eliminate ghost surgeries in Korea. Without patient consent, surgery is like a criminal cutting your body or sawing your bones. It is about my mom’s case but it can affect everyone in Korea. If you don't act or ignore this shocking matter, you might be the next victim. Let's make the world a safer and better place.

Thank you so much
