Politely ask MG (UK) to save or donate it’s abandoned development cars to a museum
The Issue
This petition is to ask MG (UK) to save the multiple past development cars it still has in its possession as a matter of historic significance to the UK’s motoring heritage.
The results of this petition will be added to a letter which will be drafted and sent to MG UK’s head office with some suggestions of motoring museums in the uk for these cars to be donated to or for MG to give them a permanent home inside their dealership network and guarantee they survive.
It has recently come to light MG still has many development cars from the early 2000’s in its possession. Thought to have been lost to time, in recent weeks these cars have been moved outside into a carpark at the now disused Longbridge production facility. All of these cars never went into production so are the only examples to exist. We believe these cars are still owned by MG as they are in an area of longbridge which looks to still be under the MG dealership. The cars are behind a locked fence so we believe they are safe for now however extended periods of time out in the open can attract vandalism and being open to the elements we all know how well MG and Rovers cars back then dealt with moisture.
These cars are part of the final few years of MG Rover in the early 2000’s demonstrating an important part of automotive history. Being the last cars designed before the company was purchased by china makes these the only glimpse of what the future of the company may have looked like had it not collapsed.
The few cars that have been spotted consist of two versions of the RDX60 program which would have been a mid size model for MG and a mid to large size model for Rover at the time. These cars never came to production so are the only two in existence.
A long wheel based version of the Rover 75 which too never went into production in the uk.
Three pre production versions of what would later become the MG F and later the MG TF as well as a hard top coupe sport version called the MG TF GT
If these cars are lost or scrapped we would have lost the last large part of the UK’s last high volume car production company. We would like to see these cars given a more permanent home as soon as possible.
I do now own any of the photographs attached, the are attached for the purpose of seeing what needs to be saved.
