Ban the public sale of fireworks
The Issue
- I would like to see a ban on the public sale of Fireworks. Displays should be organised by licensed organisations only. Fireworks aren't safe. They're gunpowder in a box - a bomb, effectively.
- In the wrong hands their is a likelihood of injury. A total of 1,936 people in England needed hospital treatment in 2018-19 because of firework injuries. The victims in 600 cases – almost a third (31%) overall – were aged under 18.
- Fireworks cause significant property loss and damage. Every year, fireworks cause approximately 18,500 fires. More fires are reported on July 4 than any other day of the year, so let’s try and break that tradition.
