The Issue

I respectfully submit a Petition titled the "POLAR POLE RULE" respectfully requesting that Major League Baseball install a new technology called the "POLAR POLE", & institute a new rule titled the "POLAR POLE  RULE" associated with that new technology to determine conclusively that when a Major League baseball player hits a baseball too high for an umpire to view if it is  "fair or foul" during a game; that the virtual technology of the POLAR POLE determine the final outcome of that ruling very similar to the new technology differentiating balls and strikes in a game that exists in every game now; to be instituted for this upcoming year 2027 in Major League baseball. The technology already exists and can be implemented as a challenge  during the game by a manager of a team disputing an on the field determination by an umpire, which can result in a  formal affirmation of the ruling on the field, or be overturned using the new technology leveling a straight virtual line vertically up as an extension of the existing foul pole.

The overall importance of this rule is to "GET IT RIGHT", and not penalize the tremendous efforts of an individual major league baseball player and his team with an incorrect on the field "fair or foul" ball ruling or determination by an umpire that would, or would not, be a home run and materially effect the outcome of a game and/or a player's statistic.

This Petition arises from a recent and clearly obvious perceived incorrect ruling that was made by both the on the field umpire and the review team in New York during the 7th inning of a game on August 19th, 2026 between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees when Orioles player Pete "POLAR BEAR" Alonso blasted a high and potential home run hit that went well above and arguably inside the left field foul pole into the grandstand appearing to be a fair ball. With the "POLAR POLE", named after the player Pete "POLAR BEAR" Alonso, whose hit that late Wednesday night would have altered the game putting the Orioles ahead 4-3, the game result would have potentially been different and affected the MLB playoff race for the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees differently. Baseball fans across the nation have all expressed outrage at this apparent incorrect call. NOW IS THE TOME TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT & SIGN THIS PETITION and deliver it to Major League Baseball to protect the integrity of the game we love!

In Major League baseball one "fan interference rule" informally called the "Jeffrey Maier Rule" originated from an incident in Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles game. Another baseball rule officially titled: Rule 1.10(c), was rescued from obscurity and became well-known after a pine tar incident that occurred on July 24th, 1983 involving Kansas City Royal George Brett vs. the Yankees. As far as name association in baseball with baseball players, a surgery for baseball pitchers on their throwing arms is universally known as TOMMY JOHN SURGERY, named after well respected MLB pitcher Tommy John who recently passed away. There is also baseball Rule 21(d), which bans any player, manager, or official from betting on a baseball game they have a stake in or play in, known as the "Cardinal Rule" that many have associated, fairly or not, with baseball legend Pete Rose. Naming rules officially or informally after players involved in controversial plays and fan incidents is the standard. We  can and should name this new rule and proposed technology after baseball fan favorite Pete "Polar Bear" Alonso who was robbed of a home run that night!

SIGN THIS PETITION PLEASE AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD TO INSTITUTE A  "POLAR POLE REVIEW' and install new rule technology we can call the "POLAR POLE" or "POLAR VIRTUAL POLE" to be implemented in Major League Baseball  games, which is the only way we can, as passionate baseball fans, make a right call out of a wrong one; and ingrain in our memory forever what occurred on the night of August 19th, 2026 between the Yankees & the Orioles. This rule will forever, in a positive way, ensure that the correct ruling is made on the field and better the game of baseball we love!
