Petition updatePeople assaulting Doctors should be punished like Terrorists

Neither gloves nor saline drip at government hospitals

Dr Sumit PeriwalGangtok, India

Doctors at government hospitals are often blamed for the miseries of the patient when the real reason is lack of basic supplies and overworked doctors. This is the responsibility of the government to provide all the basic supplies and adequate number of doctors to deal with the enormous patient load at government hospitals. To avoid public ire, it seems, the government deflects all the blame on the doctor. And the doctor, who is on duty, is the one who has to bear the brunt of public ire in form of repeated assaults. We need to change the situation. Its the right of doctors to ask for better working conditions. But, more importantly, it is the right of the common man to ask for better health facilities by improving the condition of government hospitals in terms of facilities, basic supplies and adequate number of doctors who are not overworked.
