The Issue

Eliminate the C Day for Plymouth Canton Community School's Virtual Academy Block Schedule! Many Students are tired of C Days! Replace C Days with Teacher Work Days! In all of my classes, I have talked about C Day in the class's zoom chat, and not a single person in all of my 8 classes (including advisory and orchestra) supported C Days.

My name is Luis Zapata, and I have never felt good about C-Days and I have put my reasons why below. Even if you don't live in this school district and/or you're an adult, signing this petition would greatly appreciate you signing this petition. I have never felt against something so strongly until now. Please help the students of our Virtual Academy out.

I have had conversations with my teachers asking why the schedule needed C Days. Originally, I thought it was a government count day where the district counted the number of in attendance that day to the government to get the correct amount of funding, but I have recently learned that was completely false. Government Count Days were only for completely asynchronous (meaning no mandatory zoom meetings) academies during October on every Wednesday, this district has never had a government count day because we have a mix of both synchronous (mandatory zoom meetings) and asynchronous times in our schedule.

Students are tired of today simply because we have every class today with only a 40-minute break, this means we start at 8 AM and go all the way to 2 PM. Keep in mind we can't even socialize while moving to other classes since that's not how it works anymore, now all we have to do is a couple of clicks, and boom we're in the next class. This has a pro and many cons, the pro is that it is faster to get to classes now, the cons is that we don't get to socialize walking to other classes and we don't get any exercise by walking to classes anymore. For people like me, I have to do this transition six times (including sixth hour to orchestra). The only break we have is lunch from 11:00 AM to 11:40 AM, who eats lunch at 11 AM!?

The real problem people have with C Days is screen exhaustion and homework, on A and B days we have an asynchronous time in the afternoon where we can do paper assignments instead of sitting on electronics, like math homework and reading time.  Students hate doing non-stop work on the computer, including me, and it doesn't help that we don't get any brain breaks. On C Days we get no time during the day to do homework since we have no asynchronous time to do it, this means when we get out at 2 after a long school day we're still not finished! I also have an orchestra on C Days, which means I get out at 3 and still have to do homework! It's outrageous! Do parents really want this for their children?

My proposal is to replace all C Days with a teacher workday so teachers have time to catch up on grading over 150 individual student's assignments. This proposal is a quality of life for all of us. So, I ask you, sign this petition today!

If you have any different ideas for what to replace C-Days with, feel free to fill out this form and give your ideas there. More suggestions are in the updates below!
