The Issue

Update: Since Showgirl has been in the world for a few weeks now, I am changing the target of this campaign to Taylor's upcoming projects on Disney+. Disney+ is a primary BDS target and there is no excuse for Taylor choosing it as the streaming platform to premiere her Eras tour projects when there are so many other options to choose from. Much like her choosing to continue to partner with Target despite the boycott, this choice shows us who she is. And as Maya Angelou said, when people show you who they are, believe them.

2 million people are on the brink of starvation in Gaza, and too many are still silent. Despite her immense wealth, privilege, and status within the music industry, Taylor has not spoken out against the genocide in Palestine. She has, however, found time to promote her new album The Life of a Showgirl.

As former Swifties and people of conscience, we find this to be unacceptable, and want to take this moment to publicly say: we can no longer support any artist who is not willing to use their platform to publicly condemn the genocide of Palestinians by Israel. We know that Taylor has been reluctant to use her platform for political advocacy in the past, but we truly believe that standing against genocide should not be a political statement.

The goals of this campaign are simple:

Pressure Taylor Swift to speak out about the genocide and in favor of the Block the Bombs Act. The reason for this specific ask is that Taylor has historically only ever used her platform to direct fans to a specific action - for example, asking them to vote in an election or to support the Equality Act. The purpose of this campaign is not to needlessly hate on Taylor. It is to convince her to use her immense power for the very specific goal of asking folks to contact their representatives in favor of Block the Bombs.

Encourage Swifties to boycott The Life of a Showgirl and donate the money to Middle East Children’s Alliance or a Palestinian mutual aid project instead. If Taylor makes a post or a statement to draw awareness to the genocide and encourage folks to take action by contacting their representatives and asking them to support Block the Bombs, we will end our targeted pressure campaign.

Do not listen to the album on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube, or any other streaming service during the first week of its release unless and until Taylor condemns the genocide and asks her fans to support the Block the Bombs Act. We know Taylor has more money than God and doesn’t really care about sales for sales’ sake. She cares about records and NUMBERS. Therefore, if we want to pressure her to take action, we have to apply pressure where it will be most painful - and that is in her first week’s sales numbers.

This is where I need your help:

I need you to make posts on every social media platform using the hashtag #boycottTaylorSwift. Please also share the link to this petition far and wide. We need to show Taylor that Swifties care about this issue, and that we find her silence disgusting.

If you want to go above and beyond, you can follow these three steps:

  1. Sign the petition, and share it with 5 of your friends.
  2. Make a post about why you personally are participating in the boycott. Use the hashtag #boycottTaylorSwift. I also recommend that you use common hashtags that Swifties are using to talk about the album, such as #TheLifeofaShowgirl, etc.
  3. If you really want to go the extra mile, you can post a screenshot of your donation to the Palestinian mutual aid fund or charity of your choosing, and post that screenshot with the hashtag #boycottTaylorSwift as well (note: for this to work, it must be one that directly supports Palestinians on the ground in Gaza and/or the West Bank.) Please be careful to redact your personal info!

If you would like to read more about Block the Bombs or the brave congresswoman who introduced the bill, Rep. Delia Ramirez, you can do so here and here, respectively. Thank you for reading, and please share with everyone you think might be interested! Also, please follow the campaign on social media at the links below:
