We are living through a defining moment in modern history. For more than four years, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has led Ukraine with remarkable courage, moral clarity, and an unwavering commitment to the values of freedom, democracy, and human dignity.
His leadership in the face of tyranny has inspired millions around the world and has become a powerful symbol of courage in the defence of democratic values and national sovereignty.
Australia has shown strong solidarity with Ukraine during this difficult time, providing more than $1.7 billion in total assistance and standing firmly in support of Ukraine’s independence and the international rules-based order.

Australia is a nation built by people from many cultures and backgrounds. The Ukrainian community, together with Australians from many other communities, has witnessed the strength of unity and compassion within our country. During difficult moments — including the National Day of Mourning following the tragic Bondi attack — Australians stood together, proving that solidarity and shared values unite us.
Today we invite Australians from all backgrounds to support an important initiative so that our collective voice continues to support freedom and democracy.
Why This Initiative Matters

A permanent recognition initiative would:

• Celebrate President Zelenskyy’s global leadership in defending democracy and standing against tyranny.

• Honour Australia’s solidarity with Ukraine, recognising our nation’s contribution of more than $1.7 billion in assistance.

• Strengthen our shared future by deepening the economic, cultural, and geopolitical ties between democratic nations.
