The Willow project is an oil production proposal on the Northern slope of Alaska, in an oil-rich region.

Proponents of the project said that it could become an "economic lifeline" for indigenous communities.

Projects of this magnitude threaten the health of many caribou animals, moose, birds and habitats of other wild animals. Indigenous families living near the project site do not support it, citing serious concern 

about air and water pollution and the degradation of their traditional hunting and fishing grounds
