UPDATE FEBRUARY 21, 2024

THE THEME TODAY IS TRUST:
Here is the link for the PLEASE SIGN ANDREW'S COMMUNITY TREATMENT ORDER AMENDMENT PETITION: https://chng.it/MF2H48rszv  We exceeded the goal of 2000 signatures on P.E.I. ISLANDER DAY February 19, 2024. We are now at 2019 signatures.
Please continue to sign the petition, as we want to show the P.E.I. government your overwhelming support for the Community Treatment Order amendment. THANK YOU! PLEASE HELP! It is fast and free. Anyone in Canada may sign.

The Toronto Globe and Mail story was published February 17, 2024. It is titled, A P.E.I. "mama bear" isn't done fighting. The story is available behind the Globe and Mail paywall. It addresses Andrew's journey and my efforts to lobby for a CTO amendment in the 2024 legislature spring session. Many thanks to reporter, Marcus Gee.
TODAY THE THEME IS TRUST.

I believe that people who know me would call me a STRAIGHT SHOOTER. I have no hidden agenda, or ulterior motives, lobbying the P.E.I. Government, to amend the Community Treatment Order legislation. I believe that Islanders TRUST MY JUDGEMENT.

The Community Treatment Order will help keep the mentally ill on their medications. This will give them the opportunity to live a healthy lifestyle. Not being on medication can be very risky and can potentially cause harm to themselves or others.
I RELIED ON Islanders and others to express their concern about the restrictive CTO by signing Andrew’s petition. I feel it is significant that we exceeded the 2000 signature goal on Islander Day! TRUST IS A TWO-WAY STREET and requires mutual effort and responsibility from both parties.

I learned to TRUST MY INSTINCTS during the time I was tracking Andrew. I remember the day that I was convinced that it was time for us to fly to Toronto, to try and save his life.

I TRUST, BUT VERIFY what I am told. I believe the CTO experts, Dr. Richard O’Reilly and Dr. John Gray did not lead me astray with the Community Treatment Order document they provided. They told me that the proposed P.E.I. CTO was so restrictive that few Islanders would qualify. And this is the case!

I do not TRUST IN FATE. TRUST IS A FRAGILE THING. I TRUSTED the PC Government to legislate the best possible CTO for Islanders, and they let the mentally ill and countless families down.

The Globe and Mail reporter, Marcus Gee, asked the P.E.I. Government to make a comment about the restrictive CTO. The answer was, “NO COMMENT.” I have been asking the Minister of Health, Mark McLane, why the restrictive CTO was chosen over the flexible New Brunswick CTO model. There was NO RESPONSE.

TRUST IS EARNED, NOT GIVEN. TRUST is built up over time through actions that demonstrate reliability. TRUST allows leaders to flourish and grow.

Here is an election promise made by the Dennis King government.
"We promise to put the needs of Islanders first. We promise to make services more accessible to all Islanders."

Will the PC Government keep their promise and amend the CTO in the 2024 spring session?
